How to Avoid Being Arrested in a Protest Zone

A spokeswoman at the London Police media office offered some cautionary advice for journalists who want to stay out of trouble at tomorrow's Occupy London demonstration.

"If you're asked to leave somewhere and you don't do so," she said, "you might find yourself in a tough situation."

She suggested carrying an international press card if you have one, although it's not an absolute necessity.

The most important thing to bring is"common sense," she said.

"If you asked me how to avoid crime in London, I'd say the same thing."

She also suggested asking a police officer if you're concerned about potentially violating the law.

A source with connections to NBC said the company is worried about the situation turning disorderly, but that the concern was likely connected to the 14 arrests were made around Wall Street today.

Everyone I've spoken involved with Occupy London said they expect the demonstration to be peaceful

Still, might be good to have an exit strategy and a contact outside of the protest who knows where you are, as Rosie Garthwaite recommends in How to Avoid Being Killed in a War Zone.
